Natural insomnia cures - how sweet, and yet unreachable these words are. Or are they?
We all know how much insomnia, or lack of sleep, affects all of us, practically millions of people all over the world. And most of us would give anything just to get a relief, a cure of insomnia, to be able to sleep totally restful for a couple of hours every night.

When you are suffering from insomnia, eventually your general health will start to shown signs of ‘let down’, you will feel more and more tired during the day, every day, with lack of concentration coming as second major problem. Friends and family will notice how cranky you have become, and they will not stay by your side for long, not after all their helpful concern and advice seemed to not work at all.Having all said and done, I guess you have started realising by now that this situation cannot continue forever. It is not like having to live with a disorder that you need to take a pill for it for the rest of your life and you’re fine during the day. With lack of sleep, pills won’t help for long either.

When all else fails, turn to the nature! We’ve all heard this statement, and it can’t be way off for insomnia either, when it works so well for so many other problems people are constantly plagued by, such as acne, anxiety, depression, etc.
But what natural insomnia cures are there to use, or is there anything at all?
The good news is, yes, there are plenty of things to try out from the comfort of your home, and you don’t even need to go to visit a doctor for these.

  • One of the most important things to pay attention to is what you eat and drink before going to sleep. Make sure that you don’t overeat, that you don’t drink too much and specially don’t drink coffee. A glass of warm milk is a cure that I still remember from my grandma’s time. I used to suffer from insomnia (hence my lack of sleep blog), and one of the things my grandma used to tell always give me during the summer holidays when I was at her place, is a nice, warm tall glass of fresh milk. If you like your milk sweeter, add a spoon of honey to it. Honey by itself is a natural cure for insomnia.
  • Do you like chamomile? I don’t really like the taste to be honest, but it is a very good natural treatment for pretty much everything. It is almost like natural aspirin. You can use chamomile for stomach problems, for calming your nerves, and both of these can be caused for lack of sleep. You can put a spoon of honey in chamomille too if you like the taste better. I know, chamomile is an aquired taste and not for everyobdy.
  • Aromatherapy - I know this sounds for some people a bit ‘out there’, but it works, and it’s very easy to use too. Nowadays you can find a small vial of any natural oils at herbalists, drug stores and even in some grocery stores. Try to apply 2-3 drops of lavender to your temples, or massage a few drops of lavender or chamomile oil in the neck and shoulders before going to sleep. Also in your bath water add a few drops of lavender, or even better - a cup of lavender tea. Works wonders.

There are many more natural cures for insomnia, but these should be able to get you started. If your insomnia is caused by stress, too much food and drinks during evenings, emotional problems that plague you, these natural cures will help you. Of course, if your problem is a chronic illness and you are working with your doctor on it, these natural options will not be your main remedy, however you can always use them to aid you in healing faster.

One of the books that gave me lots of good tips in beating insomnia is Natural Sleep Secrets. It actually was a real eye opener for me as it covers all the background material, including some not so easy to pinpoint causes of insomnia. Many of the suggestions cover basic healthy living principles (as do other books), but this book goes a little deeper into the “whys” and “hows” of mental programming. With the price discounted to half and additional bonuses, you owe it to yourself to give this book a try. It might make the difference between insomnia and curing it.
